About the Pub

The South Western Arms, St Denys, is an imposing large builiding with a traditional brick and wood interior throughout. The  entrance floor is also wood, with Karndean in front of the bar. There is a raised area to the left hand side of the pub laid out as a snug area with sofas, 8 covers and a real wood log burner adding to the cosy feel. This area also houses the ladies toilets.

The bar is L shaped to the right hand side of the ground floor, with a small store room directly behind it. The pub is renowned for its real ale range and has 10 hand pulls which have recently been replaced with a new ale python.

The trading area is a mix of low level sofa seating, high tables and traditional tables with seating for 30.

There is a mezzanine first floor with a pool table and low level seating for 20. This area is popular with students who come to play pool and table games. This area can also be adapted and used for small functions.

The pub has a large enclosed garden which backs onto the railway line, this is accessed from the rear of the pub.The garden has a covered smoking area with seating for 32 via wooden picnic tables, then the large garden is split into two areas on with a brick built fish pond feature. These area have seating for 80 people. This area is popular with BBQs in the summer. The garden is the USP of the pub and in the summer months doubles the capacity of the pub.

The pub offers customer toilet facilities with one set of gents and ladies, each providing two cubicles. The cellar is located on the ground floor, with access from the end of the bar and additional rear access for convenient deliveries. Externally, a large wooden shed provides useful storage space for items such as outdoor cushions and umbrellas during the winter months.

While there is no on-site trade kitchen or scope to install one, the pub benefits from a popular pizza van operating from Wednesday to Saturday. This enhances the food offering and encourages customers to stay longer, increasing dwell time. The pub is well equipped with traditional games, including two AWPs, a pool table, a football table, and a dartboard, helping to drive regular trade. Please note there is limited accessibility due to a step at the front entrance.
