The English Lounge, a cornerstone of Manchester's Northern Quarter, has officially joined the Craft Union family. This isn’t just any pub; it's a living piece of the city's history. Originally known as The Wheatsheaf Hotel, the building has stood tall since 1886, weathering the storms of time and trends to become a beloved local haunt. Its transition to The English Lounge is the latest chapter in a story rich with character and community.
One of the few surviving 19th-century buildings on the high street, The English Lounge is a testament to Manchester's enduring spirit. Its spacious interior, spread across two floors, has welcomed generations of patrons, making it a familiar and comforting space for locals and visitors alike. Known for its lively atmosphere and warm hospitality, the pub has cemented its place as a go-to destination for daytime drinks and weekend revelry.
The English Lounge's new operators!
At the heart of this exciting new chapter are Oli and Liam, two seasoned pub operators with a deep-rooted passion for the North. With a combined experience of 34 years in the industry, they bring a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to their new role. Their journey with Craft Union began a year ago when they took the helm of The Exchange Winchester. Now, they're thrilled to be back in their hometown, ready to breathe new life into this historic pub.
"We feel like we're back where we belong," says Oli. "Manchester is our home, and we're excited to be part of the vibrant Northern Quarter community." Liam adds, "The English Lounge has a special place in the hearts of many, and we're committed to honouring its heritage while creating a modern, welcoming space for everyone."
Investment in the English Lounge
The investment into the English Lounge is aimed at enhancing the customer experience, preserving the building's character, and aligning the pub with the Craft Union brand.
The exterior has undergone a subtle refresh to maintain its classic charm while incorporating the distinctive Craft Union look. Inside, areas that have seen heavy use have been revitalized to create a fresh and inviting ambience. To keep customers informed about the pub's offerings and events, new A3 Craft poster cases have been installed.
Music plays a vital role in creating a welcoming atmosphere, and The English Lounge is no exception. The installation of a music system ensures that the perfect soundtrack can be curated for any occasion. Whether it's background tunes for a relaxed drink or lively beats for a fun-filled evening, the music will always be on point.
For those looking for a bit of friendly competition, the pub now boasts a new Craft Union double darts throw. Challenge friends, colleagues, or even strangers to a game and enjoy some good-natured rivalry.
The draught beer selection has been carefully curated to offer a diverse range of flavours and styles, catering to different tastes and preferences. To streamline the ordering process and enhance efficiency, the till and payment systems have been upgraded to the Craft Union standard.
The English Lounge is more than just a pub; it’s a community hub. Oli and Liam, along with the Craft Union team, are dedicated to creating a space where everyone feels welcome and can enjoy a great time. With its rich history, prime location, and passionate operators, The English Lounge is poised to become a cherished part of the Northern Quarter for years to come.
