The Sir Joshua Reynolds sails into the Craft Union Family!

We have another amazing Craft Union pub open for business and ready to welcome you with open arms! The latest addition to the Craft Union family is the historic Sir Joshua Reynolds, a Plymouth landmark steeped in history and maritime spirit. This pub doesn't just boast a charming name, it embodies the very essence of the city it calls home.

A legacy woven into the fabric of Plymouth

The Sir Joshua Reynolds pays homage to one of Plymouth's most celebrated sons, Joshua Reynolds. Born in Plymouth in 1723, Reynolds went on to become one of Britain's most renowned and fashionable portrait painters. His artistic legacy continues to inspire, and the pub named after him serves as a fitting tribute to his achievements.

Plymouth itself is a vibrant port city with a rich past dating back to the Bronze Age. From its humble beginnings as a trading post at Mount Batten, Plymouth evolved into a thriving market town formally recognized as such in 1439. The city's history is deeply intertwined with pivotal moments in English history. In 1588, the English fleet stationed here famously defeated the Spanish Armada, a victory that secured England's dominance at sea. In 1620, Plymouth served as the departure point for the Pilgrim Fathers on their voyage to the New World, a journey that shaped the course of American history. The spirit of exploration and adventure that defines Plymouth is undeniably present in the Sir Joshua Reynolds pub.

Meet Rachel, Your Captain at the Helm of the Sir Joshua Reynolds

The Sir Joshua Reynolds welcomes a fantastic new Operator in Rachel. Having previously served her country with distinction in the Royal Navy, Rachel fell in love with Plymouth and decided to make it her home after leaving the service. Her passion for hospitality led her to work in various hotels and pubs, eventually joining the Craft Union family at the Post Office Inn. When the opportunity to manage the Sir Joshua Reynolds arose, Rachel couldn't resist the chance to bring this historic pub back to life and create a vibrant hub for the Plymouth community she holds so dear.

A fresh look for a beloved pub

We've invested significantly in the Sir Joshua Reynolds to ensure it thrives for generations to come. The pub's exterior has received a complete makeover, sporting a striking new blue colour scheme and eye-catching signage package. This transformation reflects the exciting changes happening within and beckons patrons to discover the revitalized pub.

The large garden area at the rear has been transformed into a delightful outdoor oasis perfect for enjoying a drink in the sunshine or catching up with friends on a warm summer evening. New benches have been added to maximize seating capacity, ensuring there's ample space to soak up the sun and enjoy the fresh air. And, just in time for the Euros, a brand new TV has been installed outdoors, allowing you to catch all the action with a refreshing pint in hand.

Step inside, and you'll find a welcoming and stylish pub interior that's been beautifully redecorated. New colour schemes throughout create a fresh and inviting atmosphere, while refurbished fixed seating and comfortable loose furniture provide a mix of options to suit your mood.

A pub for every occasion

As a two-room pub, the Sir Joshua Reynolds caters to a variety of preferences. A cleverly placed new doorway now connects the two areas, allowing for easy mingling and creating a sense of spaciousness. The room to the right upon entering is dedicated to sports fans. A brand new Craft Union darts board provides a haven for aspiring Luke Littlers to hone their skills, while the existing pool table remains a focal point for friendly competition and socializing. Large screens ensure you never miss a crucial sporting moment, whether it's the nail-biting final of a major tournament or your local team's next big game.

The room to the left offers a more relaxed environment. New tub seating creates a warm and inviting space perfect for unwinding after a long day or enjoying a quiet drink with friends. The atmosphere is ideal for conversation and catching up, away from the excitement of the sports zone.
